The Old Bengal Warehouse opens

D&D London’s latest venture, the Old Bengal Warehouse, is officially open from today. The group has transformed a former East India Company warehouse in the City into two new restaurants, a bar and wine shop (see the gallery, below).

British grill restaurant New Street Grill, relaxed fish restaurant Fish Market (above), the Old Bengal Bar and the New Street Wine Shop are all new, exciting additions to the area around Liverpool Street.

Taking their cue from the original Old Bengal Warehouse building, built in 1771 to store tea, spices and exotic goods, the new venues draw on its character. “It is a complex but irresistible building,” says chairman and CEO of D&D Des Gunewardena. “It’s really exciting to bring it to life again with restaurants and bars that I think the old officers and staff of the East India Company would have enjoyed.”

New Street Grill

A modern British meat house and grill restaurant, New Street Grill has a focus on fantastic ingredients, such as Aberdeen Angus beef from Turtons of Devon. Specialities include its sharing steaks (a 750g double rib-eye on the bone). “Master sommelier Nicolas Clerc has also put together a fabulous wine list,” says Des.

Fish Market

The most relaxed of D&D’s new restaurants opening this autumn, Fish Market features a crustacea bar and 100% sustainable fish. “We have wished for a number of years to reopen a fish venue in the City,” says Des. “In contrast to our other new fish restaurant Angler, at 3 South Place, Fish Market is much less formal, with, I hope, the bustling atmosphere of a simple fish restaurant in an English seaside town.”

The Old Bengal Bar

The Old Bengal Bar, run by ex-Claridges assistant bar manager Milos Popovic, focuses on historic cocktails, vintage rums and cognacs and champagne. Read more about it in this Artful Diner post.

New Street Wine Shop

The New Street Wine Shop specialises in wine from Burgundy and Bordeaux and features a list of 600 wines. Drinks and charcuterie are provided in its bar and the shop features a unique colour spectrum system for selecting wine.
